Why did we start (another) blog/newsletter on Barca?
In a 24/7 news cycle, what can truly drive value and enjoyment for fans?
Let’s be honest.
There are a million sites dedicated towards chronicling every morsel of Barca news and opinion in that crazy entorno of 24/7 clickbait and headlines. We cannot compete with them.
That’s the bad news.
The good news? Neither do we intend to.
We are just ordinary fans with limited time, (though, unlimited passion for the club and the game), but we know we cannot compete on quantity. So our only chance lies in nuance and quality.
For us, less has to be more, quite literally.
Then it begs the question, why one more?
Quite simply put, Barca is at the cusp of a transformation. The events of this summer culminated in the perfect maelstorm of a series of events that had seen the club decline steadily from its treble winning season in 2015.
For quite some time, it had been a team with a ton of band aids, winning through patchwork at most times. This summer, it was as if all the band aid’s were ripped aside all at once. To put it simply, a cycle ended. Now, a new one is beginning and we believe it’s time for the community to come together. To give back, for the last two decades of unparalleled joy, the blaugrana has given us.
It’s time to go back to our roots. To our youth systems, the cantera, and our way of playing, by adapting to the needs of modern football.
In any reconstruction there is a lot of innovation, emotion and change. As fans who have supported the club for decades, we have the best seats on the sidelines to witness it as it happens.
Will we become the Milan of the 90s or will be fare better?
It’s always interesting to be part of something new. We just wanted to document this new beginning, along with the macro environments which are shaping football for the next decade. From nation states owning clubs, to the slow erosion of community inclusion in the grass roots of club football. From the global north expansion of the game to the economies it creates to redefine cultural context.
As fans of this club and football, we are trying to build a project which we believe will inform and engage the community who loves Barca and football, the same way we do.
But how different will it be and why is it worth your time?
We have some plans and an idea of what we want to build. It will be focused on community and we want to go beyond just writing opinion pieces with something far more tangible for the community to hold on to. But we are just starting with a blank canvas. We would rather let time and our work speak for it, than talk about it when there is nothing to show.
What we can commit though, is that we will try our best to entertain your passion for the game and the club through nuance, details and insights.
If you spend five minutes reading something that we publish we want you to feel it was five minutes of your day well spent.
